MAIN FEATURES

Large bird of prey, which features a dark gray back with rust-colored shoulders that are highly visible. Dark head and usually has a white throat and neck. Underneath is white with black marks. Its tail is white with a black belt at the tip, clearly visible in flight.

Deforestation and the consequent destruction of its natural habitat.

DIET
It feeds on insects, reptiles, mammals, amphibians and smaller birds. It also scours roads for run-over animals and takes advantage of fires to capture animals fleeing on the ground.
REPRODUCTION
The nest is built on the top of trees, or on rocks. The female lays up to three eggs, but usually only one chick survives.
BEHAVIOR

● Builds nests on trees or rocks from dry branches.
● Flies into the wind, hovering with its wings still.
● Active in the daytime and sunbathes with its plumage fluffed up.
● Can fly at great heights, finding flocks of vultures and hawks.
