MAIN FEATURES

Their color varies from reddish to gray, with a lighter colored belly. They have white areas at the end of their tails, inside their ears and above their eyes. Males, unlike females, have horns of up to 20cm in the breeding period.

TOP THREATS

Getting runover on roads. It also suffers great pressure from hunting and attacks from domestic dogs.

DIET
Mainly fruit and leaves.
REPRODUCTION
Breeding takes place all year round, and couples stay together for two weeks. Pregnancy generates only one baby, which weighs about 500g after 206 days’ gestation.
BEHAVIOR

● Inhabits open forests, forest edges, plains and man-altered areas, including sugarcane plantations, eucalyptus forests and pine reforested areas.
● They are generally diurnal and solitary.
● They form small groups in times of food shortages.

TRIVIA

When young, they have white spots on their bodies, but they disappear when they become adults.
