

At approximately 56cm long, it is the largest of all toucans. It is often seen in forests, savannahs and urban areas, where it goes looking for food.

MAIN FEATURES
The plumage is black, with yellowish skin around the eyes, and bluish eyelids. The large orange beak, with a black tip and serrated edges, can reach an incredible 22cm.

The toco toucan is not an endangered species, but it has been captured and trafficked to other countries for sale.
DIET
It feeds on insects, lizards, eggs, chicks and, mainly, fruit.REPRODUCTION
Its nest is made in hollow trees or holes. The male lives with the female during the reproductive period, which can produce two to four eggs. The incubation period lasts from 16 to 18 days and after the birth of the chicks, they live in flocks.BEHAVIOR
● The toucan uses its beak with great skill to catch small prey and separate pieces of food.
● They live in pairs or in flocks of 20 birds.
● They fly at an angle, with their beaks straight.
● They sleep with their head turned and resting their beaks on their backs.
