MAIN FEATURES
Its name is due to its striped plumage. It has rusty-brown feathers on its head, back, wings and tail. Its face is a cinnamon color, with lines around dark eyes. The short, thick eyebrow is white.

Deforestation hits this species hard, so it is considered to be endangered.
DIET
It feeds mainly on insects, rodents, marsupials, bats, and occasionally lizards and small birds.REPRODUCTION
From August to October it lays two to three eggs in a nest built on trunks and in the hollows of trees. The incubation period is approximately 29 days.BEHAVIOR
● It has a low song which may go unnoticed by less sensitive ears.
● It lives in the middle and upper part of forests, sharing space with other large owls in the Atlantic Forest.
● It is predominantly nocturnal.
TRIVIA
The rusty-barred owl is a very rare and not well studied, because the population is very small following deforestation of the Atlantic Forest.
