The margay is a skillful tree climber. They can spend their whole life in trees, leaping and hunting birds and small mammals. They are very agile and can leap up to 3.7 meters.

MAIN FEATURES

Its fur is dark yellow, except for the belly, which is paler. They have very large and prominent eyes, a protruding snout, large legs and a very long tail, longer than the body.

TOP THREATS

The loss and destruction of its habitat are undoubtedly the main threats to the species in Brazil. There is also hunting, getting runover, and diseases from domestic animals.

DIET
It feeds on small rodents and birds.
REPRODUCTION
The fertile period for the female lasts from four to ten days and the gestation is up to 80 days. Only one kitten is born, usually between March and June.
BEHAVIOR

● It is found almost exclusively in dense forests.
● It is a solitary, nocturnal animal and is a great tree climber, although it spends most of its time on the ground.
