The brown howler monkey is the most common primate in South America. They are sociable, live in groups, and organize themselves in a hierarchy. They are playful and love to hang on tree branches with their tails.

MAIN FEATURES

Medium sized and are one of the few species of monkeys that present differences in coloration between the sexes. The females, which are slightly smaller, have a dark brown coat and the males are born in this same color and become reddish as adults.

DIET
Mainly leaves, fruit and seeds, but can also eat flowers, stems, bark and lichens.
REPRODUCTION
The brown howler monkey has 190-day gestation period, producing only one baby.
BEHAVIOR

● Moves slowly and spends about two-thirds of the day resting.

● In groups, the biggest male is in charge.

● Active during daytime.

TRIVIA

They have an incredible ability to emit very loud vocalized sounds (howling), which can be heard at a distance of up to 5 km.
