TOP THREATS

Although not a globally threatened species, in Brazil it is threatened with extinction in the Atlantic Forest by deforestation.

REPRODUCTION
It builds its nests on the tops of trees, often more than 20 meters from the ground. The nest can be up to 1m in diameter. The chicks depend on their parents for at least the first year of life, a period in which the parents do not move away from the nest.

● When it finds its prey, it dives straight at it.
● An expert in catching birds.
● Lives alone or in pairs.

TRIVIA

It goes unnoticed by birdwatchers because of the way it glides for hours a day.
